(Bio)fabrication of 3D scaffolds

The Training Visit regarding the obtaining of 3D scaffolds for the tissue engineering field, took place between the 3rd and the 7th of April 2017 in the laboratories of the Tissue Engineering Research Group. Dr. Diana-Maria Dragusin, assistant professor at the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest and Eng. Filis Curti, research assistant at the same university were the Romanian specialists who improved their knowledge regarding the fabrication of polymeric porous scaffolds through (bio)fabrication technique using an ENVISIONTEC 3D-BIOPLOTTER. The team from the University of Bergen comprised from PhD student Ahmad Rashed, Dr. Miina Ojansivu and Eng. Kaia Berstad, guided Dr. Dragusin and Eng. Curti through relevant tasks regarding the foreseen activities.

The training debuted with a thorough presentation of the facilities and the rules to be followed when working in the laboratory, followed by introductory concepts about the printing technique, including the usage of the specialized softwares. The researchers were actively involved in ongoing projects of Tissue Engineering Research Group. A work plan regarding subsequent experiments was settled. Thus, the preparation of the printing inks was realized, depending on the different applications. Next, the printing process was realized. The details of the experiments are not presented here. The results were promising for further progress of the projects. Thereby, it can be said that a collaboration based on the materials’ science knowledge of the UPB researchers, and the (bio)printing expertise of the host group was established.

More information about the training can be found here.
